Mathematics

As parents of young children, the founders of Come Fly With Me understand the importance of primary school education to acquire a good foundation upon which the later years of education can build on. The pressure on both parents and children to do well in the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) is also well known, and thus maths tuition for primary school tends to start early. Primary school mathematics is a subject that many students (and parents) fear. The standard class size of 30 pupils in our primary schools may not be conducive for our young minds to grasp and fully comprehend math concepts introduced. At Come Fly With Me, our primary maths tuition reinforce concepts in smaller class sizes of 6 or less designed to allow our students to gain from learning through peer interaction and benefit from individual attention from our teachers. Sign up for primary school maths tuition with Come Fly With Me today.

Secondary 1 and 2 are very important years for mathematics, abstract thinking starts from Secondary 1 where your child officially starts doing mathematics using algebra. It is a huge jump from primary school where models and pictorial modes of solving problems are more commonly used. A new phase of your mathematics journey starts from Secondary 1. We know that every child has the potential to do it well if they do it right. When the basic content knowledge and application skills are firm and broad, the higher-level skills can be easily built on top of this solid foundation. At Come Fly With Me, we equip our Secondary 1 – 2 / IP Yr 1 – 2 students with the broad and firm mathematics foundation and at the same time, our students have fun while learning.

In our lower secondary math tuition curriculum, we focus on the following main topics:

  • Arithmetic
  • Algebra
  • Geometry
  • Basic statistics
  • Basic graphing skills

Some students realise a gap in their understanding when they enter Secondary 3 – 4 / IP Yr 3 – 4, or some realise that something is just not right but cannot pinpoint exactly what it is. Many simply cannot score beyond a B grade no matter how hard they try. It is not uncommon to hear of such problem in Upper Secondary Mathematics. The reasons could be varied, but whatever the reasons, Come Fly With Me is here to help overcome the problem through our O Level Maths tuition.

Secondary 3 – 4 / IP Yr 3 – 4 Mathematics is not daunting. We train our Upper Secondary students to be independent and confident learners. We bring across concepts in a way that can be easily understood at the students’ level. We encourage lots of questioning to help deepen understanding. We ensure that there is sufficient understanding of the concepts before we proceed to the application of the concepts and the higher order thinking questions. These 2 years of mathematics education equip students with the skills and analytical mind to face the bigger hurdle in JC 1 – 2 / IP Yr 5 – 6 H2 Mathematics. At Come Fly With Me, we hone our students’ problem solving skills, we stretch their ability and increase their capacity to solve new problems. We teach them how to transfer their knowledge to different situations. We do not believe in memorising standard style of questions, as the world is ever-changing, and examination questions are also ever-changing. By imparting students with the skills to transfer knowledge and concept, our students are not afraid to solve any problems, and they will also believe in themselves that no problem is unsolvable.

In Secondary 3 – 4 / IP Yr 3 – 4, our lessons integrate both Elementary (Core) and Additional Mathematics. In other words, you don’t need to sign up for 2 different classes for E Maths tuition and A Maths tuition, as they are both under the same family, which is mathematics.

These are the main topics covered in our O-Level Maths tuition:

  • Arithmetic
  • Algebra
  • Geometry
  • Trigonometry
  • Calculus
  • Probability and statistics

JC 1 – 2 / IP Yr 5 – 6 H2 Mathematics is fun to learn. At Come Fly With Me, our tutors break down the H2 Math tuition topics into simpler and manageable bite-size pieces. If you start early, follow through consistently, and hone your critical thinking skills, it is almost impossible to find it difficult to cope.

Having said that it is fun and not difficult to cope, our classes are definitely not a playground. Our JC 1 – 2 / IP Yr 5 – 6 curriculum is intensive and rigorous, especially when you are in JC2 / IP Yr 6, we are very focused on working towards your goal of scoring an “A”. 2 years for the preparation of the A-Level examination is a very short time given the amount of content that the students need to manage. Therefore at Come Fly With Me, we delve into the content learning fast and furious. We aim to be slightly ahead of your school’s tutorial topic whenever possible, but we are not dashing aimlessly just for the sake of being fast and ahead. We will monitor very closely the progress of our students, and should our students need more time to grasp the concept, we will adjust our lessons according to his or her learning needs. We make sure that all our students will be competent and ready to take off and fly high.

At Come Fly With Me, we understand the pressures of A-Level and the qualities needed to excel. Therefore, in our A-Level Math tuition, we do not only focus on the content of the subject, but we also teach our students tricks to deal with the pressure and create a light-hearted environment so that learning does not get dull. We help our students develop skills that improve time management, stress management and higher order thinking. We also teach them techniques to minimise careless mistakes and the right process to analyse questions thoroughly.

The main topics covered in our A-Level Math tuition are:

  • Functions and graphs
  • Sequence and series
  • Vectors
  • Complex numbers
  • Calculus
  • Probability and statistics

Physics

Physics is about asking questions with regards to things that intrigues us and phenomenon that are observed in our everyday life and answering them by in the most logical way. Physics gives you a new appreciation of the world around you.

Everyone started off with a curious mind. Young children often ask why to almost everything that catches their attention. Why is there a rainbow? What are shadows? Can I go inside the TV? Children started off liking physics and wanting to learn more about physics, but somewhere along their academic journey, many got lost, and they stop asking why. By the time children are in secondary school, they start to lose interest in physics. Many secondary school students find physics boring and difficult. Such mindset is largely due to the way physics lessons are conducted. Concepts thrown point blank in their faces. Theory, rules and laws are drilled into their head, without teaching the students how to properly appreciate them. At Come Fly With Me, we aim to provide secondary school students with O-Level Physics tuition and physics lessons that ignite their lost passion, by showing them the world around them through the eyes of our physics tutor. At the same time, we also focus on teaching them thinking skills, the process to thoroughly analyse question, and qualitative answering skills.

Bridging Class

Bridging classes are conducted every mid-year and end-of-year holidays. You may sign up for the bridging class concurrently with your regular class. The purpose of our bridging class is to help our students reinforce whatever that was covered by the school, it can also serve to bridge any gaps between students’ knowledge and the school’s current curriculum, for some cases.

Head Start Class

Head Start Classes are only conducted at the end of the year from November to December. We will introduce our students to the content in the next level / year, and we will teach them selected chapters (2 – 3 chapters). This is to prepare them ahead of school, so that they are already equipped with the skills and knowledge for the following year. This is especially useful for students who move on from Primary 6 to Sec 1 / IP Yr 1, Sec 2 / IP Yr 2 to Sec 3 / IP Yr 3, and Sec 4 / IP Yr 4 to JC 1 / IP Yr 5, where the contents undergo a big jump.
